DAME KIRI AND FRIENDS - THE GALA CONCERT

On February 28, 2004, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa gave an historic gala concert at The Aotea Centre to launch the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation, a cause truly close to her heart that she has created with the stated mission of providing financial and career support for talented young New Zealand singers and musicians at the start of their careers. She was accompanied by the Auckland Philharmonia & she invited some of her NZ's friends to come & share into this world-class occasion - including Dame Malvina Major, Helen Medlyn & Simon O'Neill.

Filmed in late 2004 this documentary profiles tenor, Simon O'Neill as prepares to understudy one of the world's greatest ever opera singers, Placido Domingo in a series of performances of Wagner's Die Walküre at the home of America's most revered opera company, The Metropolitan Opera.
